How We Help Injured Washoe County Clients and Families

video
play-sharp-fill

You were hurt, and the medical bills are arriving faster than the answers. The treatment you need, the work you miss, and the calls from an adjuster all land at once, usually before you have had time to think.

Washoe County is a big place, and injuries happen in all kinds of ways. Some clients come to us after a crash on I-80 or US-395. Others were hurt in a casino, a store, an apartment complex, or somewhere they never expected. The circumstances may be different, but the questions are usually the same: Who is responsible, and how do I recover from this?

That’s where our work begins. We investigate what happened, gather the records and evidence needed to support your claim, and deal with the insurance company on your behalf while you focus on getting better.

Gina Corena & Associates works on a contingency. The consultation is free, and you pay no fee unless we win.

Injury Cases We Handle in Washoe County

Personal injury covers far more than car crashes. Most of our Washoe County cases trace back to someone who owed you reasonable care and failed to give it. The freeways produce the worst wrecks, but casino and retail falls, unsafe premises, and dog bites send just as many people to the emergency room across Reno and Sparks.

The cases we handle most often in Washoe County include:

  • Car, truck, and motorcycle crashes
  • Pedestrian and bicycle injuries
  • Slip, trip, and fall injuries.
  • Unsafe property and premises liability
  • Dog bites and animal attacks

When a death follows an injury, Nevada law allows certain family members to pursue a wrongful death claim. We handle these cases with the care and attention they deserve while helping families seek accountability and financial recovery.

What to Do After an Injury in Washoe County

Get medical care first, even if you think you can walk it off. Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno is northern Nevada’s only Level II trauma center, and many serious injuries from across Washoe County are treated there. Some injuries take hours or even days to fully appear, which is one reason prompt medical attention matters.

Then document everything. Take photos of the scene, your injuries, and whatever caused the accident. If anyone witnessed what happened, get their names and contact information while the details are still fresh.

Be careful when speaking with the insurance company. They may ask for a recorded statement early on, so it is best to speak with a lawyer before agreeing to anything.

Nevada Injury Law: Fault, Deadlines, and What You Can Recover

Nevada uses modified comparative negligence (NRS 41.141). Your award is reduced by your share of fault, and you collect nothing once you reach 51 percent. The line matters. If a jury values your case at $100,000 and finds you 20 percent at fault, you recover $80,000; at 50 percent, you can still recover, and at 51 percent, you recover nothing.

You generally have two years to file an injury claim (NRS 11.190). Miss it, and a court can throw out an otherwise strong case before anyone hears it.

There is no cap on damages in an ordinary Nevada injury case. Caps apply only to medical malpractice (NRS 41A) and to claims against a government body, which carry a $200,000 limit and a much shorter notice deadline.

Because evidence can disappear and memories fade over time, it is important to begin investigating a claim as soon as possible.

How a Washoe County Injury Claim Moves Forward

Legal Process for Car Accident Cases in Las Vegas - Voted Best Las Vegas Car Accident Lawyer

It starts with a free consultation where we review what happened and tell you honestly whether you have a claim worth pursuing.

The next stage is gathering evidence. That can include medical records, accident reports, witness statements, photographs, and other documentation that helps establish liability and damages. Once we understand the full extent of your losses, we prepare a demand for compensation.

Many claims resolve through negotiation. When they do not, we file suit and continue building the case through the litigation process.
