Nevada law is clear about what drivers must do after a crash. Under NRS 484E.010, any driver involved in a collision that injures or kills someone has to stop at the scene and stay there. They also have to give their name, registration, and insurance information and help anyone who is hurt, as required by NRS 484E.030.
Leaving the scene of an injury crash is not a minor ticket. It’s a category B felony in Nevada, punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and a fine of $2,000 to $5,000, and the driver faces a separate charge for each person harmed. Those criminal penalties are separate from your civil right to be compensated for your injuries.
The duty to stop is not limited to major wrecks. Even in a minor collision or a parking-lot bump, a driver has to stop, share their information, and call for help if anyone is hurt. When a driver leaves anyway, it often points to something they are hiding, like no insurance, a suspended license, or drinking, and we use that to your advantage when we build your claim.
